Merge

Merging is opt-in, per element. Pieces with merge become one shape when they get close. Everything else stays a body of its own.

How far it reaches

The number is the reach of the melt in pixels, from 0 to 64. merge on the group sets it for every child, and merge="0" on a child opts out.
